The Ageless Diva of Bollywood, Rekha, daughter of Gemini Ganesanand Pushpavalli was born in 1954. This fit and fine actress, previously, was obese and plump in her first films in the early 70s but underwent a spectacular transformation and has became the ageless icon of beauty and glamour of Bollywood today.

Rekha’s Bollywood debut was during the 1970’s in ‘Sawan Bhadon’ opposite Navin Nischal with a screen name of Rekha. Her inability to speak Hindi, a dusky complexion along with her weight did not exactly add to her assets in a predominantly fair-skinned, Hindi-speaking North-Indian film industry. With the firmness of making it big in Bollywood, this timeless beauty took matters seriously, took up Yoga, shed those extra pounds, learned Hindi and dancing, and thus was born a new and much improved Rekha – who went on to deliver one box office hit after another like ‘Nagin’, ‘Muqadar Ka Sikander’, ‘Mr. Natwarlal’, ‘Khubsoorat’, ‘Umrao Jaan’, ‘Khoon Bari Maang’ amongst others.

Being a part of one of the hottest pair on the Hindi screen, Rekha has acted in over 20 films with the then reigning superstar Amitabh Bachchan and their hits together like Mukaddar Ka Sikandar, Mr. Natwarlal, Khoon Paseena and Silsila.

Her seductive voice became one of her trademarks and her mesmeric eyes that she uses with devastating effect got her many admirers, including well established Bollywood actors such as Kiran Kumar,Jeetendra, Vinod Mehra, and Amitabh Bachchan.

Apart from giving commercial successes, Rekha’s evergreen presence in various movies has always opened positive critical reception like her in Shyam Benegal’s Zubeidaa with Karisma Kapur, Kudan Shah’s Dil Hai Tumhara with Preity Zinta and not forgetting the mother’s role she played for Rakesh Roshan’s Koi.Mil Gaya, a performance which won her the Best Supporting Actress Award.
